
Sam Okun recently produced the feature film PRISONER’S DAUGHTER, directed by Catherine Hardwick, which stars Kate Beckinsale and Brian Cox; the film premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and had its theatrical release in June 2023. Sam last produced ALL THERE IS, an ensemble dramatic feature film starring Jason Priestley, Mena Suvari, Laurel Marsden, Elsie Fisher, and Cheyenne Jackson which had its world premiere as the opening night feature presentation at the 2025 Beverly Hills Film Festival, where it would go on to win The Audience Award for Best Picture.
Currently, Sam is developing contemporary remakes and sequels of two of multi-Oscar nominated director Otto Preminger’s most notable films, ANATOMY OF A MURDER, which garnered seven Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, and ADVISE AND CONSENT, which was nominated for both the BAFTA and the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or.
Sam has cultivated a reputation as a tireless advocate of book-to-film adaptations and is currently working with many best-selling authors and novels such as: Rendezvous In Black written by famed film-noir great, Cornell Woolrich (also author of the book from which the classic Hitchcock film: REAR WINDOW was adapted); the screenplay The Secret Detectives is an adaptation of an early Agatha Christie novel; and Swimming to Atlantis, another novel set up at Walt Disney Motion Pictures; as well as Rich Deceiver being developed with Twentieth Century Studios.
For Television, Sam is developing the novel, The First Stone, written by John Briley (Best Screenplay Academy Award winner for the GANDHI, which also won the Academy Award for Best Picture); Dark Side of the Moon is a one-hour drama loosely based on Pulitzer prize winning author Wayne Biddle’s book of the same name; and ANATOMY OF A SCAM is a series based on the novel Anatomia de un Trampa, published by Penguin Random House. Sam also has original projects in development at Paramount Pictures, Netflix and Amazon Studios.
Sam’s early productions include a feature film adaptation of the classic Jack London novel Call of The Wild; ANYA’S BELL nominated for an Emmy Award and the prestigious HUMANITAS Prize; and SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY. Sam also produced and directed the feature documentary THE SECRET WORLD OF SUPERFANS, which premiered at the International Comic-Con Film Festival; the film explores the phenomenon of extreme fandom and the motivations of “Fantasy Fans” and stars an assortment of actors and directors including Academy Award winner Gary Oldman, Malcolm McDowell, John Carpenter, and Roger Corman.
